Steady Rain

The sky opened up just after dinner started and we had slanted sheets of rain and thunder boomers. I thought of the windows at my studio which I left wide open because of the heat, and hoped the rain didn't come in.

It was the hottest day yet, and I faded in the afternoon. When it gets muggy and hot like this my stomach goes all funny and my appetite's affected (unless there's cheesecake). I saved half my lunch and ate it for dinner.

My friend Ducky is expected in a few minutes. I invited her to a poetry reading tonight (not mine), but I feel so icky, lethargic and swollen from the heat and too much food all the time, I hope I don't fall asleep. If she's called to cancel, on the other hand, because of the heavy rain, I wouldn't know because I haven't been able to go to my car and turn on the cell phone. It's rather flooded out there. I suppose if she doesn't show by twenty of, I ought to take off my shoes and socks, get out the big umbrella and wade out there.

Oops -- I think she just drove up. More later...
