A Short Note from England

Birdsedge, Huddersfield
Yorkshire Dales
A 200-Year-Old Stone House
The Little Bedroom in the Front

Imagine the place... that's me in the window! I'm actually in England with my band, after months of anticipation and some stress (mainly over packing). We arrived early morning of the 2nd, and by now have had our first gig and a day-trip by train to York. Plus lots of running on English country roads, hiking up footpaths, eating of comfort foods and watching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a favorite of our agent's. She has an enormous Sci-Fi video library. We're here a couple more days, then we get the rental car and Chris finally gets to drive on the dreaded Left as we head south.

Our agent and her husband originally moved here to buy this house and the attached unit which in the 80s was the post office/general store. They ran it for some years, and he was a kindergarten teacher as well, until their little vocal trio got to gigging so much they couldn't handle everything. So they sold the post office and went on the road for 20 years. In '05 they had their last gig, and now she runs the booking agency and he runs a recording studio in the house.

The Dales are incredible. I was even in England before and they're more incredible than I remembered. So much old stone, hand hewn stone fences, so much history -- it makes the U.S. seem like a fad. Buildings built to last. If they could figure out how to get the hot and cold water to come out of the same tap they'd have everything.

Our first gig at the local village hall was great, friendly, fun. I feel like we've popped our cherry now, so Cropredy won't be as daunting. We bought Wellies just in case, you know, since it's been, you know, but the fields seem to be drying up by now and we're hopeful. We can leave the rain boots here for next year -- good thing, as there would be no room whatsoever to pack them in our suitcases.

Anyway, just wanted to check in -- may not have another opportunity for a while. I hope everyone is well... I've missed reading y'all, these many weeks. It's just been so busy. Wish us luck! Wish that we sell loads of CDs!
